Prometheus® Copper Clay is a malleable and versatile material that, after firing, transforms into pure, solid copper . It is composed of micron-sized copper powder, water, and an organic binder that burns off during firing. Its soft, pliable texture allows for hand-sculpting, laminating, texturizing, rope-wrapping, and even turning .
With PCC® you can create everything from detailed jewelry to sculptures, hollow pieces and decorative objects , with warm finishes and handcrafted character.
It is compatible with:
-
Cubic Zirconia (Laboratory Stones)
-
Previously tested natural stones
-
Glass beads, ceramics, porcelain
-
Other Prometheus® metal clays
-
And it is suitable for enamelling , ideal for colourful creations.
COOKING OPTIONS ACCORDING TO YOUR SPACE AND EQUIPMENT
Prometheus® Copper Clay offers three firing methods to suit your workflow:
1. Carbon method (recommended)
2-step cooking for maximum structural integrity.
-
Step 1: Pre-firing at 500°C for 15 min to remove the binder.
-
Step 2: Final firing at 850°C for 90 min in a container with activated carbon (3 cm under and around the pieces).
Result: solid parts, less oxidation and optimal sintering.
2. Open shelf cooking
-
Direct cooking at 920°C for 30 minutes on a stainless steel rack.
-
Ideal for small or low-volume parts.
-
When finished, you can immerse it in hot water to facilitate the removal of the firedscale (oxidation layer).
Tip: Place the pieces at the back of the oven, as the front is usually cooler.
3. Cooking with a blowtorch
-
Heat the piece slowly until the flame and smoke disappear.
-
Then, apply maximum heat and maintain a constant red-orange color for 5–10 minutes .
-
Cool in air or immerse in water.
-
Finish with hot Picklean® to remove oxidation, if necessary.
Ideal for testing, small parts or kiln-free work.
FINISHING AND POLISHING
Once fired, your piece is pure, durable copper . All you need is:
-
Brush it
-
Pickle it (if you see residue or fire)
-
Polish it until you achieve the desired finish.
Each object is unique, bearing the stamp of your creativity.
