How to fire Prometheus® Sunny Bronze clay?

You have 3 cooking methods , depending on your equipment and experience level:

1. Carbon method (recommended)

Step 1 : Pre-firing at 500°C for 15 min on a metal rack (to burn off the binder).

Step 2 : Place the piece in a container with activated charcoal and cook at 820°C for 60 minutes.

This method reduces oxidation (firescale) and provides more stable and long-lasting results.

2. Open shelf cooking

Place the pieces directly on a rack in the oven at 820°C for 30 minutes .

When finished, you can soak them in hot water to help remove the oxidation layer.

Tip: Place the pieces towards the back of the oven, where the heat is usually more even.

3. Cooking with a blowtorch

Heat slowly until the piece stops emitting smoke and flame (indicators of binder burning).

Then, keep the piece at a constant red-orange color for 5–10 minutes .

Cool in water or air. Use paint stripper if necessary to clean the surface.

Ideal for small parts or quick oven-free testing.

Perfect finish

After firing, simply brush, pickle if necessary, and polish your piece. You'll end up with a shiny, durable, and characterful bronze .
